When reading a chart you may care most about wealth or love, going straight to Wealth or Spouse palace. But fortune doesn't happen "most important first" — it follows time sequence. Which palace the major cycle reaches first and which the annual activates first has an order. Earlier events change later ones — e.g., first changing jobs (Career), then income changes (Wealth), then relationships follow (Spouse). Looking only at Spouse, you miss cause and effect.
"Sequence thinking": natal chart is the "map," major cycle is the "route," annual is "current position." You follow the route, not jump to the end. Major cycles move one palace per decade, annual one per year, minor cycle one per year — this "arrival" order is the event order. Palaces reached first have events first.
Why Sequence Matters
Earlier events are "cause," later are "effect" — seeing only effects without causes gives no understanding.
Cycle order determines life rhythm — some suffer first then enjoy, others enjoy first then suffer.
Annual order determines event chains — one event triggers another, a chain reaction.
Same chart, clockwise vs counterclockwise cycles give completely different fates — because the order is reversed.
How to Read in Sequence
First lay out cycle order — from Life, clockwise for yang-male/yin-female, counterclockwise for yin-male/yang-female, one palace per decade.
Which cycle are you in now — what's this decade's theme.
Annual order within the cycle — which year reaches which palace.
Which natal palace does the annual activate — which field does the external event trigger.
Connect events in a chain — what happens first, what follows, what's the causal relationship.
Example of Sequence Thinking
Cycle reaches Career first (work change), then Wealth (income change), then Spouse (relationship change) — work changes → income changes → love changes.
Cycle reaches Spouse first (love change), then Property (family change), then Fortune (mindset change) — love changes → family changes → mindset changes.
If you only look at the last palace, you don't know the preceding causes.
If you read in sequence, you can predict later events from the first palace.
Reading Order
When reading a chart, follow this order:
- Lay out cycle order — life route map.
- Current cycle — where are you now.
- Annual within current cycle — where in the decade is this year.
- Palace activated by annual — what happens this year.
- Connect in time order — what first, what next.
- Don't skip around — wrong sequence means wrong understanding.
